Acadiana residents enjoy convenient access to a variety of excellent healthcare options. From general medical centers to highly specialized hospitals, Acadiana boasts more than 800 practicing physicians crossing 33 specialties that collectively provide residents with access to quality care and services across the region.
The region is also home to one of the nation's first and only municipal-owned fiber optic networks that provides high-speed Internet service to area healthcare facilities, and allows caregivers to conveniently and efficiently transfer patient data to the patient or other essential providers. This technological advantage decreases patient wait times and enables medical staff to receive information in a timely manner.
Hospitals in the region consistently gain national recognition for outstanding patient care and innovative treatments. In 2012, the Heart Hospital of Lafayette, which specializes in heart disease treatment and prevention, was named one of the top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the country by Thomson Reuters. Acadiana is also home to cutting-edge cancer treatment facilities and dedicated maternity and pediatric care centers, including the second-largest such facility in Louisiana.
In addition to award-winning specialty hospitals, residents are able to take advantage of the broad range of services provided by large area health care providers such as Lafayette General, or at any of the more than 15 hospitals located across the Acadiana region.
