Explore Sea and Sky at the Lafayette Science Museum

View All Kids Activities

The Lafayette Science Museum in downtown Lafayette allows visitors to explore topics like undersea life, stars and space travel through its numerous exhibits. The museum comprises a planetarium, virtual aquarium, rock displays and more than 1,000 paintings and sculptures by Louisiana artists.

Museum programming is designed for all ages. Sidewalk astronomy evenings give stargazers the chance to study the night sky through telescopes set up in locations like Parc Sans Souci in downtown Lafayette. Weekly presentations introduce guests to stars, constellations and planets. The museum’s summer camp features a space travel simulator. The museum’s planetarium offers a number of educational shows for students that cater to a range of age groups, from basic programs for 1st and 2nd graders to more advanced topics for older students through 12th grade.

Seasonal events include the Museum of Fear, a haunted-house fundraiser highlighted by an all-ages “zombie walk,” and the Steampunk and Makers Fair, a family-friendly celebration of early inventors held each fall.
