Giant Omelette Celebration in Abbeville

View All Events

Legend has it that the first giant omelette in French history was prepared for Napoleon Bonaparte and his army more than 200 years ago. Today, only seven cities around the world host their own Giant Omelette Celebration to honor the French tradition, and Abbeville, Louisiana happens to be one of them.

The Confrerie D’Abbeville hosts its Giant Omelette Celebration in Abbeville on the first weekend of November each year. The celebration brings in 35 of the area’s best chefs to cook the traditional breakfast dish, which is prepared in a 12-foot skillet. Included in the variety of ingredients are crawfish tails, parsley, onions, bell peppers and Louisiana’s famous TABASCO Sauce. The celebration also features a number of other activities and entertainment options for visitors, including a charity walk, live music, an egg cracking contest, an antique car show and an arts and crafts show, where local artists showcase their works, allowing visitors to browse and purchase at their leisure.
