Vermilion Catholic High School in Abbeville is a 9th-through-12th-grade parochial campus about 20 minutes southwest of Lafayette and is recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.

The 200-student campus offers academic challenges such as dual enrollment in University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) math and English classes. Juniors and seniors can earn up to 15 college credits through the partnership with UL Lafayette.

Vermilion Catholic students choose from 24 clubs and activities that include award-winning choirs, Mock Trial, Boys and Girls State, National Honor Society and a competitive quiz bowl team. There is also a drum line, art club, French club, dance team and bowling club. Nearly all students connect to their school through extracurricular programs — 98 percent belong to one or more campus organizations and 60 percent participate in school sports.

Vermilion Catholic High School provides ACT preparation classes to ensure students are college-ready, and nearly 60 percent of its 2012 graduates received college scholarship offers. The athletic program is highly competitive at the state and regional levels. The girl’s basketball team was state champion in 2013, when boy’s football also finished first in the state.
