Lafayette’s “Central Park” Hosts Farmers Market and More

View All Parks & Rec

The planned, Central Park-style Park at the Horse Farm is 100 acres of pristine green space located in the heart of Lafayette. The master plan for the park, created by national experts with extensive community input, calls for a multitude of design elements including multi-use pavilions, lakes, an amphitheater, ravine garden, large tree house and adventure play area, and two jogging loops. A former equestrian farm, the park is located in close proximity to several neighborhoods and is one of the region’s most anticipated projects.

The Park at the Horse Farm currently hosts the weekly Lafayette Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market, a Saturday gathering of about 60 local and organic farmers and food producers, as well as regional artists with one-of-a-kind handmade items. The park is home to annual events such as PlantFest, an indigenous plant sale that also offers environmental speakers and children’s activities. Mardi Gras at the Market is also held at the park, featuring a kid-friendly reenactment of Acadiana’s traditional rural Courir de Mardi Gras.
