Early College Academy

BACK TO Schools of Choice

Early College Academy (ECA), located on the Lafayette campus of South Louisiana Community College (SLCC), is one of a small number of early-college high schools in the country. Graduates of the 9th-through-12th-grade program earn an associate’s degree in general studies in addition to a high school diploma. This School of Choice received an A rating from the State Department of Education for 2014-15.

In addition to core high school subjects, students begin taking entry-level college courses starting in 9th grade, and by 11th grade they transition to a full schedule of college classes. All students are required to take college-level foreign language, English, math, science and history courses.

Early College Academy students can participate in extracurricular and intramural activities offered SLCC’s campus. Early College Academy students also have a wide array of clubs of their own, including student council, chess club, science club and health club. The drama club’s two productions each year take place in the SLCC campus theater. There is also an ECA fall dance and a yearly prom.

Early College Academy has about 250 students, and it enrolls about 75 new students in the 9th grade each year. Students must meet admission requirements and participate in an interview to attend Early College Academy.
