BACK TO Schools of Choice

L. Leo Judice Elementary School in Scott, located on the west border of Lafayette, enrolls pre-kindergarten-through-5th-grade students on a campus that emphasizes environmental sciences. This freestanding School of Choice facility received an A rating from the State Department of Education for 2014-15. In addition to its many environmental classes and activities, the school offers a music and chorus program that teaches students fundamental music skills and gives them the opportunity to perform a few times throughout the year. The curriculum also includes French classes for 4th and 5th graders.

The school highlights environmental sciences across the curriculum in addition to its core math, science and English courses. Students study the role of marsh grasses in preventing coastal erosion and learn the importance of the native plants for the Louisiana coast. Master gardeners and experts from LSU AgCenter’s 4H Youth Development Program work alongside students in campus flower and vegetable gardens. There are multiple outdoor classrooms and shaded areas for hands-on student projects.

L. Leo Judice Elementary School provides its students with a number of activities, allowing them the opportunity to learn both in the classroom and out. Members of the 5th-grade garden club have the opportunity to plant, raise and harvest a variety of vegetables on campus and cook them together. The club places an emphasis on the importance of healthy eating habits, teaching students about the benefits of eating well.
