Nicholls State University is a public university that offers graduate and undergraduate degrees, as well as education in non-degree and certificate programs. The campus sits on 287 acres and is only a short walk from downtown Thibodaux.

The university offers special programs such as the John Folse Culinary Institute, which draws students from all over the country wishing to study under Creole and Cajun cooking masters. A geomatics program blends traditional surveying with new global information systems technology, helping students to prepare for jobs in a growing and lucrative field. The honors program targets the university’s most outstanding students for challenging courses and undergraduate research in most fields.

Nicholls offers more than 100 student organizations and a vibrant Greek life. The university’s NCAA athletics program includes football, basketball, baseball, cross-country, tennis and golf. Intramural and club sports include activities like Ultimate Frisbee, cycling and soccer with tournament-style games. A 6,000-square-foot recreation center offers state-of-the-art cardio equipment, two multi-purpose courts, an indoor walking track, two group exercise studios and a wellness classroom.
