Quaint St. Francisville, a Favorite Getaway

View All Trips

St. Francisville’s historic sites, outdoor recreation and picture-postcard charm make it a popular destination for regional travelers seeking a special locale.

The town is known for its many annual gatherings and festivals, including Fourth of July and Christmas celebrations held downtown. A favorite event is the Audubon Pilgrimage, which is a recreation of the time when American artist John James Audubon lived in St. Francisville and painted many of his Birds of America folios. Volunteers dress in period costume and invite visitors into historic sites Audubon frequented.

Nature lovers continue to be drawn to the area because of its lush beauty. North of town, the Clark Creek Nature Area offers moderate hiking trails through a hardwood and pine forest complete with waterfalls. The nearby Cat Island National Wildlife Refuge contains the National Champion bald cypress, the largest tree of any species east of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Charming cafés and stores line the streets of St. Francisville’s historic district, where shoppers can find eclectic gifts, original art, home and garden decor, jewelry and more. There are several types of accommodations in St. Francisville, including a golf resort, bed and breakfasts, inns and hotels.
