Zydeco Breakfast an Acadiana Tradition

View All Arts & Music

The weekly Zydeco Breakfast at Café des Amis, located in Breaux Bridge less than 20 minutes northeast of Lafayette, has been an Acadiana tradition since the 1990s. The musical genre of zydeco was created by Louisiana’s French Creole settlers in the early 1900s and combines the Southern chords of an accordion with a number of influences, from traditional Cajun to soul and brass.

Every Saturday morning, Café des Amis patrons enjoy a traditional Acadiana breakfast accompanied by music from a live zydeco band. The breakfast menu includes local favorites such as beignets, shrimp and grits and omelets with spicy tasso sausage. When the band starts playing, guests can transition to the dance floor to savor the festive music. Patrons from around the state travel to the iconic Café des Amis for Saturday mornings of food, fun and dancing.
