Lafayette Parks and Recreation

The Acadiana region provides residents with a variety of leisure time options by way of Lafayette’s many parks and recreation centers. In total, 36 parks span 1,500 acres that comprise 10 recreation centers, three golf courses, tennis centers with a total of 55 courts, four swimming pools, three disc-golf courses and more than eight miles of jogging trails. From challenging BMX bike courses and skate parks to relaxing wildlife viewing areas, Lafayette parks offer a range of activities for people of all ages.

Popular Lafayette parks feature amenities such as indoor and outdoor Olympic-sized pools, a splash pad and a playground with equipment for toddlers, sports amenities such as an 18-hole golf course, campgrounds and hiking trails.

Lafayette area parks provide children ages five to 19 with a variety of activities through various youth-sports programs, including flag or tackle football, baseball, softball, volleyball, golf, fencing and track and field. Summer camps keep kids busy with supervised free play at community recreation centers, offering roller skating, swimming, tennis and bowling. Seasonal events such as Girard Park’s Fall Fun Fest provide families with engaging activities like hayrides and costume contests.

The area continues to focus on the growth of Lafayette’s parks and recreation system with plans to build a new, 100-acre park near the downtown area. Located on the site of a former horse farm, the development features historic live oaks and has plans for the inclusion of a weekly farmer’s market and a reflection garden.
